The closing argument for Republicans
oo many Americans do not know what socialism entails. They do not understand what it means to be Democrat crazy. They are bombarded everyday by a media that supports Democrat policies. With record numbers of early voting then, it is incumbent upon the Republican candidates to use consistent closing arguments.
Almost all Democrats agree that we should have national health insurance. They call it Medicare for all. This one is easy to dispute. First the program will result in the loss of private health insurance for about 200 million people: over 160 million through employment, about 25 million through individual plans including the ACA (which is a public option), and about 15 million through military-related plans. Did Obamacare lower the cost of healthcare? Not for anyone I know. Is your care any better? I find it poorer since I have to wait longer to see a physician, and I have to see a nurse practitioner most of the time. I have to travel out of town for many procedures since they are not available locally. Over 150 rural hospitals have closed or reduced services significantly since 2010. Finally, the estimated costs for Medicare for all would be $30 to 50 trillion over ten years. Are you ready for that tax increase?
Increasing taxes on wealthier earners is a major aim of Democrats. What is the result of this effort? Have you ever gotten a job from a poor person? Do you enjoy paying more taxes? Do you think richer people enjoy paying taxes? I doubt it, and expect that they will hire fewer employees. We already have a progressive income tax. How much higher is fair? Then some want a wealth tax. There is not enough total wealth to tax ourselves to a balanced budget. Then all those jobs are gone. But this is the aim of “equity,” which is the aim of socialism.
Then there is the Democrat desire for green energy. This means less oil, gasoline, and diesel, which would result in higher prices well beyond those of today. This will mean higher food prices, delivery costs, and higher electric costs. Further, the electric grid is insufficient for this purpose.
Many Democrats support packing the Supreme Court, making D.C. and Puerto Rico states, and more government funding of campaigns. These ideas are antagonistic to our constitutional republic. The argument for voters is to remind them this dilutes their vote and influence. Further, they want open borders, an end to ICE, and movement of police funding toward social programs. Boiled down, they want more crime and monies given to non-citizens at the expense of citizens’ taxes.
Democrats urge more gun control, but do not seem to put criminals in jail for extended periods. They push social equity, including trans-females in women’s sports. They oppose identification for voting while requiring it for almost all other government programs. They have not cooperated with federal probes into program corruption. This might be a critical method to answer private wealth.
The notable antisemites in the Democrat party are a warning about future woke behavior. The corruption in Alaska’s senatorial contest adds to the argument that Republicans are not the bad actors. Then there is the Omar issue, which should energize Minnesota Republicans. This and the reduction of crime nationwide should be sources for positive campaigns. The murder rate (among others) has reached lows not seen since 1900.
Then finally, the growth of the economy at 3.4% in the third quarter is a good sign. The reduction of taxes for working people including tips, social security, and overtime was opposed by every Democrat. We’ve got the lowest poverty rate ever measured, highest family income ever, increased business investment, strong consumer consumption, and declining unemployment with the most Americans employed—all signs of a prosperous economy. Unfortunately, high gas and diesel prices due to the unstable Middle East and Ukrainian Wars have gotten wide press. All is not perfect, but there is much to crow about for Republicans.
