For Immediate Release Date: Thursday, October 1st, 2026 Contact: Press@christinefororegon.com Tina Kotek Stands Increasingly Alone As Christine Drazan and Growing Number of Portland Leaders Condemn Calls to Eliminate Police CANBY, Ore. – Gubernatorial candidate Senator Christine Drazan (R-Canby) is calling for Portland City Councilor Mitch Green’s resignation and condemning Tina Kotek’s silence as he openly advocates for abolishing the police. Mitch Green’s past social media posts from 2020 recently resurfaced expressing open hostility and “pure hatred” toward Portland police. Rather than distance himself from those views, Green defended his broader vision of a future without police or prisons. While Portland’s mayor, police chief and police union president have publicly criticized this dangerous ideology, Tina Kotek has remained an ally of the abolish the police movement. As Mitch Green was working to build support for a movement to defund and abolish the police, then-Speaker Kotek shockingly issued a scathing letter attacking local law enforcement as officers faced months of violence directed at them and police facilities. In an effort to hide her own extreme ideology, that letter has since been scrubbed from online platforms. “Suggesting we eliminate police and prisons will empower criminals. This dangerous policy puts lawbreakers ahead of safety and justice. Mitch Green should resign, and Tina Kotek should be held accountable for her consistent failure to stand up for public safety. She stood with rioters and criminals over safe neighborhoods. She attacked law enforcement while violent rioters were actively trying to burn down a police station and harm officers in the process. Now she is protecting a sitting city councilor who has called for eliminating police and prisons. When I’m governor, Oregonians won’t have to wonder whether help will come when they call. Police will be there to protect our communities, victims will receive the justice they deserve, and government will never lose sight of its most basic responsibility of enforcing the law,” Drazan said.
